Super excited to see that Z. Lew has returned with this new fresh single titled Fools Gold. He’s really been diving deep into the genre of alternative music, specifically indie pop, as shown by the sound of all his latest releases. His approach is unique in a way that never really boxes him into one category leaving a wide range of possibilities and no limit to the creativity Z. Lew is able to express through his art.
The cover art, created by Brendan Smith, is a perfect visual representation of how this track makes the listener feel. The cover displays endless fields with what looks like colorful flowers surrounding a floating silhouette of a person reaching towards the sky. This visual is very vivid and perfectly accompanies the detailed lyricism that Z. Lew provides. This song plays entirely into the idea of chasing love even though it may be a hopeless effort with no inherent value in the end similar to finding fools gold. The opening lines, “Maybe I’m crazy, Fools gold im chasing, and Won’t stop till I make it”, really encapsulates this idea and the emotional tone of the song as a whole. This simile Z. Lew uses a very creative angle on the topic of love and it comes of beautifly with the dreamy instrumental and air vocals that Z. Lew delivers.
The music video that accompanies the song, directed and edited by Brendan Smith, was also amazingly unique and engaging all the way through. The silhouette of Z. Lew in front of a white background is seen performing the song to a microphone that hangs in the air while trippy visuals fill the space of his silhouette. The visuals being displayed somewhat go along with what is being described in the song, and this attention to detail is really cool to see because it made me pay even closer attention to the visuals as they were changing all throughout the video. This upward trajectory Z. Lew has been following in regards to the quality of his work, always has me tapped in and wanting more. Check out this new single for yourself in the link below!
